Frequency and modal analysis

Often it is beneficial or even necessary, to identify the eigenfrequencies and modes of a structure. By using Abaqus, K&I has been able to verify the structural design on several projects, where rotating machinery is supported on a concrete foundation. When combining manufacture specific equipment with foundation designs and soil properties, unique physical conditions occur, that requires structural verification on a project specific basis.

Modeling the foundation geometry, stiffness of the machinery and including the site-specific soil conditions it has been possible for out engineers to verify if the system eigenfrequencies are well outside of the operating frequencies of the rotating equipment. Velocities at critical points in the model was extracted and compared with the manufacture specific limits accordingly.
